This is true of, I think, all the major blogging platforms (we use Wordpress). That doesn't make it ideal, of course. One workaround is to use a different email address for commenting on blogs. Another is to enter a 'null' address that is correctly formatted (e.g. something like "a@b.com"). On the main site we have HTTPS protected feedback forms and you are free to use those instead.
