Among the recommendations are:

  • Remove yourself from Facebook search results
  • Don’t let Google search your Facebook profile
  • Keep photos with your name tagged private
  • Keep your contact information private

Facebook gives you a lot of options to manage your privacy but the default settings may not suit everyone. It’s worth reading this article and spending some time to familiarise yourself with how Facebook works.

GetSafeOnline.org’s research found that 10.8 million people in the UK are registered on a social networking site and that one in four have posted confidential or personal information that could make them vulnerable to identity theft.
