Scam callers using the Microsoft name

by Tony Neate on June 3, 2010

We’ve heard that a number of people that have received calls from people pretending to be from Microsoft alleging there is a problem with their computer that can be fixed for a fee.  Microsoft do not make unsolicited phone calls to help you fix your computer.

If you receive an unsolicited call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft Technical Support, hang up.  More advice from Microsoft here http://www.microsoft.com/protect/fraud/phishing/Msname.aspx

I was contacted last Thursday, caught unaware, I got to the stage of ‘oh, and it will cost you xhundred pounds via a paypal link’ before the alarm bells started ringing. How do these scammers get our nunbers? Be aware!

Becareful of one Asian man who will introduce himself on the phone with a english man’s name eg:David Scott his actual name is Atiq he will tell you his from microsoft and your computer is infected and he will ask you to go through some options on your computer and will than ask you to put a code no on your screen and later have controll over your computer from his end he will give you a tel no which is 08442720796 no one answers the call all you hear is recorded message and to leave your name and no the agent or person name you want to talk to.
I have reported this person to microsoft and they have told me that he is a Fraud so please be carefull with such persons calling your landline.

Thanks
